bonify Platform Redesign: A Journey to a Better Experience
When I joined bonify, I quickly realized that the platform had no structured design system. Every screen looked different, UI elements weren’t consistent, and making changes took a lot of time. Users often struggled to navigate the app, and we saw drop-offs at key points. On the business side, the development team had to build every component from scratch, slowing down releases. I knew we needed a better approach.
The Challenge
Our goal was clear: create a consistent, user-friendly, and scalable design system. But the challenge was big – we had to do this while keeping the platform running smoothly and ensuring that our users still had a great experience.
Understanding the Problems:
Based on the user research, competitive analysis and reviews here is what we found:
-
Users were confused because screens looked different from one another, and financial data wasn’t presented in a clear way.
-
Navigation felt frustrating since important features were hard to find.
-
Inconsistencies made development slower—without reusable components, developers had to design and build everything from scratch.
-
Drop-off rates were high, especially on key areas like the dashboard and registration flow.
The Plan: Creating a Scalable Design System
I decided to build a design system from scratch, ensuring that everything—from buttons to typography—was standardized. This would make the platform easier to use, speed up development by 50%, and provide a consistent experience for all users.
1. The Plan: Creating a Scalable Design System
-
I created a UI Kit with a clean color palette, standardized buttons, text styles, and spacing rules.
-
Introduced component-based design, meaning we could reuse elements across the platform.

2. Improving Navigation & User Flows
-
Redesigned the dashboard to highlight key financial insights at a glance.
-
Simplified menus and layouts, making it 20% faster for users to find key features.
-
Reduced cognitive overload by grouping related information together.
3. Making the Platform Accessible
-
Ensured all text had proper contrast (meeting WCAG standards for readability).
-
Created clear visual hierarchies to help users scan content easily.
-
Designed for mobile and desktop, ensuring a seamless experience across devices.
